Flynn McLaughlin

Co-Principal

Mr. McLaughlin joined SMYS in 2018 as a homeroom teacher for Grade 4 and 5 and has since taken on the responsibility of Co-Principal.  Mr. McLaughlin’s teaching career began in 2008 in a small public school in New Jersey teaching 5th grade.  His career has taken him to 5 out of the 7 continents of the world. He holds two Masters degrees, one in educational leadership with a thesis on the effects of altruism and student engagement, and the other in elementary education with a thesis on the evolution of approaches to education throughout history.  

He believes in providing the best possible opportunities for students to develop inquiring minds, a desire to learn, and a better understanding of themselves and their world, while striving to achieve their personal best.  

Outside of teaching, he enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking, and spending time with his wife and son.
