Laura McCarthy

Homeroom Teacher

Mrs. McCarthy is the homeroom teacher for the K-3 class. She teaches all subject areas, but especially enjoys English and Physical Education. Mrs. McCarthy has experience teaching all primary grades, and has taught at the junior level as well.

Mrs. M was born and raised in St. Marys, Ontario.  She attended school in St. Marys and Stratford. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, she was a competitive figure skater and played competitive softball. In her later teens and early adulthood, she was a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the St. Marys' Quarry.

Mrs. McCarthy attended Brock University and received an honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Therapeutic and Inclusive Recreation. She attended Althouse College at the University of Western Ontario and received an honours Bachelor of Education Degree.

After graduation, Mrs. McCarthy moved to London, England, to begin her teaching career. She taught a variety of age groups at Newport Primary School in London’s East End for 5 years. While living abroad, she travelled to many places across Europe and Northern Africa. She loves to travel, and takes any and all opportunities to visit new places.

Mrs. McCarthy has been teaching at Stratford Middle Years since 2016. She loves working in the small classroom environment, and believes that the community surrounding the school is what makes SMYS so special.

Currently, Mrs. McCarthy lives in Stratford. She enjoys walking her dog and spending time with her friends and family, especially her nieces and nephews.
